(Assistant Director Airspace Policy 2)
Gp Capt John Clark joined the Royal Air Force in 1976 and was subsequently commissioned in to the Air Traffic Control Branch. He has served in a variety of ATC posts in the UK, Belize and Germany at both airfield and Area Radar Units, including both instructional and examinational roles. Previous appointments include Senior Air Traffic Control Officer at RAF Finningley and command of the RAF’s Central Air Traffic Control School, as well as staff appointments in MOD, HQ Military Air Traffic Operations and the RAF Personnel Management Agency. Latterly, he filled the appointment of Gp Capt ATC at Headquarters Air, where he was responsible for military ATC policy and all aspects of service delivery with a particular focus on expeditionary ATC.
Currently working on secondment to the UK Civil Aviation Authority as Assistant Director Airspace Policy 2, he has a wide ranging remit leading all aspects of airspace policy, planning and operating principles; this role includes the direction of the policy for unmanned aircraft system operations within the UK and he Chairs the UK’s UAS Steering Group.
